How Do Women Come to EHouse?
Women can be referred to us by other agencies, and many call us of their own accord. When a woman calls, we conduct a phone interview. From the phone interview answers, eligibility to go on the tracking list is decided. A family will remain on the tracking list as long as the mother calls in monthly and indicates she would like to remain on our tracking list. Length of time on the tracking list is fluid and is not time limited. When program space is available, we call the woman we think fits. Some of the criteria include mother and family situation, family size, ages/gender of children, outside support services, and ability to meet the expected benchmarks. An interview is conducted with all staff present and then after review we will invite a potential family to join us for a House dinner where the woman is interviewed during a House meeting. The current women provide input to the staff based on the interview. References are checked and then a family is invited to participate and come to live at EHouse.
How Long Can Women Stay at EHouse?
A family participates and lives at Elizabeth House from 12 to 18 months, provided the woman is actively working to meet the program benchmarks and the family is participating in EHouse activities and programs.
How Many People Stay at EHouse?
We can accommodate up to 9 families any one time, (a mother with 1-3 children share a bedroom).
The number of children living with us is changes, depending upon the number of children in a family Living with a mother full-time. We do have some families where the mother and children are reunifying.Typically, we house from 12-16 children at any one time.
In addition, one or two volunteer staff members live-in to participate in the cooperative model that is central to our mission.
