to pay monthly rent (averages to 30% of income)

How
do women come to EHouse?
Women can be referred to us by other agencies, and many
call us of their own accord. We maintain a tracking list which the women
stay on by calling us at the beginning of the month. When a room comes
available, we call women that would fit the size of the room based on
family size, and ages of children. After phone interviews and personal
interviews, we invite the woman and any children she may have to the House
for a dinner with our current residents. The residents also get to provide
input before a family is invited to stay with us.
How
Long Can Women Stay at EHouse?
Every three months, we review and revise a goals and benchmarks contract.
Women can stay with us as long as they need the housing and are meeting
their contract requirements. Most families stay with us an average of
one year, although some leave sooner, and some have stayed for more than
two years.
How
Many People Live at EHouse?
We can accommodate up to 9 families or single
women at any one time, although we typically serve 7 families
(a mother with 1-5 children share a bedroom) and two single women.
The
number of children living with us is constantly changing, depending upon
the number of kids in each family and the number of kids not living with
us full-time but visiting on weekends and for overnights. Typically,
we house from 12-16 children at any one time.
In addition, one or two volunteer
staff members live-in to participate in the cooperative
model that is central to our mission.
