Oakland Elizabeth House is a tax-exempt 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

We gratefully accept monetary donations, donations of stock, and most in-kind donations (including clothing, books, household goods, furniture, automobiles, computers, appliances, etc.).

We rely on small foundation grants, fundraising, and individual donations. Families pay a small monthly program fee.

Our monthly expenses for nine families, 25 – 30 people, is approximately $19,000 per month.

Please call or e-mail us before stopping by or sending an in-kind donation.

You must make an appointment prior to dropping off non-monetary donations. If we cannot accept your donation for any reason, we can usually point you towards another reputable organization.

Here are some options for donating to Elizabeth House:

  • Drop-off donations at our House, 6423 Colby Street, Oakland, CA 94618 (cross street is Alcatraz Ave. in the Rockridge neighborhood, in the old convent at St. Augustine Church.) Please see "Donation Policy" below.
  • Mail us a monetary donation at Elizabeth House, PO Box 1175, Berkeley, CA 94701.


Donation Policy

We are truly grateful for the donations we receive.

1. We simply cannot thank and receipt the donor properly.

2. Our over-worked staff members would have to take the time to sort the donations which would take precious time away from helping our residents with more pressing matters.

Please Note: We do not accept public monies (donations from government agencies).

  • We accept donations by appointment only.
  • The gate to the donation bins will be locked at other times and donations will not be accepted.
  • To donate furniture and food items, please call us. Please do not leave these items outside or in the bins.
  • Upon drop off, complete a donation form so you receive an acknowledgement and a receipt from Ehouse for tax purposes.

  • Rain Gear; umbrellas, children’s rain slickers, children’s rain boots, women’s rain coats
  • Gift Cards: Safeway, Target, Wal-Mart, Ross, Home Depot, Trader Joe’s
  • Food items (sealed/current expiration dates): Chicken/Beef Broth, Olive Oil, Canola or Vegetable Oil, Sugar, Flour, Rice, Soy Milk
  • General Cleaning Items: Dishwashing detergent, sponges, rubber gloves, Dust Buster, Pine Sol, Comet, Bleach, vacuum cleaner
  • Twin/Full Bunk Bed Frames, Twin mattresses, mattress covers – twin/full
  • Children and Family Programs: Passes or Tickets for Movies or Events
  • Baby Items: Diapers – Variety of sizes, Baby Wipes, Baby Monitors
  • Household Items: Tupperware - Large size with lids , Brooms, Spray Bottles
  • Appliances: Large capacity side-by-side refrigerator/freezer, Washer or Dryer
  • Women’s Office Supplies: Printer Paper, Postage Stamps, 2010 Day-Timer Calendars, Bulletin Boards, 2010 Wall Calendars, Bulletin Boards, Microsoft Office Suite Tutorial - XP or Higher
  • Music - beginning Piano Sheet music, Cello Sheet music. A cello for one of our moms!
  • Used cars - good condition for family use
  • Volunteer Needs: Handyperson, gardening help, grocery shopping, help with meal preparation, tutoring/homework, plumbing, household chores
  • EScrip Registrations for Safeway, Macy’s, etc. - go to www.escrip.com and register for Oakland Elizabeth House

    We cannot accept TVs, computers, or other items that are not in good working condition or more than 3 years old. We cannot accept donations of child car seats, strollers, or soiled mattresses for liability reasons.
