Mother Day 01

Mothers Day!

When Mother’s Day comes around each year, it conjures up those special images, memories or thoughts that remind us of the unique person who holds that privileged title in our lives.

In honor of Mothers Day I thought you might enjoy hearing what two of our EHouse kids had to say about their mom.    So I sat down with Chloe (4) and TJ (7)to ask what their mom means to them.  Here is what they told me:

Q:  What is the very best thing about your mom?

Chloe:  She buys me toys, she looks pretty and she’s nice.  All I think about is I love you.

TJ:  She does a lot of stuff for us

Q:   What special thing do you like your mom to cook for you?

Chloe:  Popcorn!  With hot sauce!  If I love something she would give it to me everyday.

TJ:  I like when she makes me macaroni and cheese

Q:  When you don’t follow the rules how does mom help you to learn from your mistakes?

Chloe:  She says it’s ok when I make a mistake cause everybody makes mistakes

TJ:  She helps me by using crayons and showing me stuff

Q: What does your mom do for you?

Chloe:  When I’m sick she cleans up my….and puts a garbage can next to my bed if I ….. She picks out nice clothes for me and brushes my hair.

TJ:  She takes care of us so we don’t hurt ourselves and she tells us not to talk to strangers

Q:  How does your mom help you with school?

Chloe: Sometimes mommy walks to pick me up when her car is broken

TJ:  My mom helps me to read and she helps me with my problems

Q:  What do you like to do with your mom?

Chloe:  I like to play a puzzle with my mom

TJ:  We play and make faces

Q:  When you are sad, how does mom make you feel better

Chloe:  She tickles me….she gives me popsicles

TJ:  My mom hugs me and kisses me

Q: Is there anything special about bedtime?

Chloe:  I get a goodnight kiss!

TJ:  She hugs me and says “good night stinky butts”

Q: What are you thinking about your mom right now?

Chloe:  I want to give her flowers.

TJ:  I’m thinking about hugging her.

Mother Day 02

Out of the mouths of babes, we say.  I couldn’t think of a better way to introduce you to Kim, TJ and Chloe’s mother.   Facing so many of life’s challenges head on and making her way back to self sufficiency and independence, Kim hasn’t lost sight of her first priority in life, her children.  She knows what it means to be a mom and always puts the kids first no matter how tough things get.

In Kim’s words: “Whenever I’m feeling sad or hopeless I look at my beautiful children.  When they say something funny, I can’t stop smiling.  I thank God for allowing me to be these children’s mother for they are a gift!

When honoring your mother this Mother’s Day, if you make a donation to Elizabeth House you will help Kim and the other moms that are here to have a second chance.  Tell your special mom about Kim and her children.  Let her know you’ve made a donation in her honor to support and encourage the moms at EHouse.

Happy Mother’s Day! From all of us here at EHouse

"Happy Mother's Day"
Means more than have a happy day.
Within those words lie lots of things
We never get to say.
It means I love you first of all,
Then thanks for all you do.
It means you mean a lot to me,
And that I honor you.
But most of all, I guess it means
That I am thinking of
Your happiness on this, your day,
With pleasure and with love.
